He Met Me Here: The Samaritan Woman’s Encounter—Hearing Jesus Daily Devotional

Jesus speaks to women, with intention. This entire week, we will be looking at a conversation He had with a woman who desperately needed what He had to offer her.

We have a tendency to have some comfort when we are around someone that has more visible sin in their life. At least I am not as bad as….. Do you every struggle with that? Take some time to surrender that attitude to the Lord.

SHE HEARS CHAPTER 2

The Samaritan Woman

Some of the most powerful moments with Jesus happen not when we have it all together, but when we’re at our lowest.

In She Hears, Chapter 2 takes us to an ordinary well on an ordinary day—until Jesus shows up. The Samaritan woman wasn’t looking for Him. In fact, she was avoiding everyone. And yet, Jesus meets her right there, in the middle of her shame, her mess, and her routine.

“He told me everything I ever did.”John 4:39

This woman’s story isn’t just ancient history. It’s our story too. For anyone who’s ever felt rejected, disqualified, or too far gone—this chapter reminds us that Jesus doesn’t wait for us to be perfect before He pursues us.

In the culture of her day, she had every reason to hide. A woman. A Samaritan. Five failed marriages. Living with a man who wasn’t her husband. She was the kind of person others whispered about. That’s why she came to the well at noon—alone, in the heat, when no one else would be there.

But Jesus was there.

And instead of condemnation, He offered conversation. Instead of shame, He offered living water.

This encounter reveals a powerful truth: Jesus meets us in the middle of our mess, not after we’ve cleaned it up. He names the pain and offers healing. He sees every part of us and still invites us into relationship.

When the woman at the well realizes who He is, she doesn’t run away—she runs to others. The very people she was avoiding are now the people she tells. Why? Because grace has a way of turning shame into a story worth sharing.

She Hears unpacks how Jesus transforms:

·   Shame into purpose

·   Secrecy into testimony

·   Avoidance into calling

This woman later becomes the first recorded evangelist (to the Gentiles) in the New Testament. Her story—and her boldness—spark revival in her town. And it all started with a simple, honest encounter with Jesus.

So if you’ve ever felt unworthy, too broken, or stuck in your past, remember this: Jesus isn’t waiting for you to get it together. He’s already there, at your well, offering living water.

pray with me

Lord, thank You for meeting me where I am. In the places I’ve hidden, in the mess I carry, You still come close. Help me receive Your grace and let go of the shame that no longer defines me. Teach me to tell my story the way she did—with courage, joy, and hope.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
